One of the very first things that happens after your house goes on the market is an open house. And now, with Spring finally here, open house season is officially upon us. This gives you the perfect chance to really showcase and highlight your home, which hopefully, will get it sold quickly and for the right price.

When it comes to open house prep, there are a number of things you can do that will help your house stand out from the rest. Don’t underestimate how important these can be in getting your home sold.

In this post, we’ll highlight a few tips that will help.

Clean

It should go without saying, but you want your home to be as clean as possible before any open house. If you don’t have the time to do it yourself, hire a cleaner who can scrub your house for you and make it look fresh and spotless.

De-Clutter

Hand in hand with getting your house cleaned is also removing clutter. It’s common, especially if you have kids, to have things like toys or trinkets lying around. Do your best to remove these from your home or store them in a neat and organized way.

De-Personalize

Another ‘de’ to do is to de-personalize your home. Remember, you want those visiting your open house to imagine themselves and their family in it. That’s hard to do with your photos and personal effects all over the home. Do your best to remove your personal items.

Staging

If you have the funds, really consider staging your home. If you’re already out of the home, companies can come in a temporarily furnish it with items that really make it look great. If you’re still in it, think about small touches like new bedding, towels, and accessories.
Landscape Curb appeal matters and the outside of your home is the very first impression it will make on prospective buyers. In the weeks before your open house spend some time outside, mow any grass, weed the sidewalk, trim bushes, and even touch up on door and trim paint.

Spend some time on open house prep before the big day and you’ll likely see and feel a difference. A clean, well staged, and cared for home is key to making a great first impression for prospective buyers.
